As of July 1, 2024, the statutory minimum wage will increase by 3.09%.

Since January 1, 2024, the employer is required by law to pay employees at least the minimum hourly wage per hour. There is always one fixed minimum hourly wage for all employees aged 21 and over. Since January 1, 2024, fixed minimum youth wages per hour have applied to employees under the age of 21. These minimum youth hourly wages are derived from the statutory minimum hourly wage. Just like in 2023.

What is the minimum hourly wage?

Below you will find the gross minimum hourly wage per age:

15 years: €4,10
16 years: €4.72
17 years: €5,40
18 years: €6.84
19 years: €8,21
20 years: €10,94
21 years and over: €13,68

Fines upon underpayment

Are you underpaid? Speak to your employer about this. The minimum wage is regulated by law and so your employer must adhere to it. This also applies to your holiday allowance. Does an employer not comply with the statutory minimum wage and/or the minimum youth wage? The Dutch Labor Inspectorate (SZW Inspectorate) can then decide to impose a fine.

Look further

No matter how old you are and what you are going to do: always be well informed before you start working somewhere. Not only ask about your future salary when you join, but also look at the secondary employment conditions such as the number of days off, any ATV days, a travel allowance, etc.
