Age is just one number: Hassan (70+) as the regular winner!
Three years later...
Three years ago we wrote about Hassan with pride. At the time he was 67 years old and he still enjoyed going to work every day. It is now three years later, Hassan is 70+ and we can only draw one conclusion: he is still unstoppable.
Of course, we never lost sight of Hassan in those years. At BergWerk we like to keep in touch with our employees and we also speak to Hassan regularly. As he is now well above retirement age and has been such a steady, reliable force for many years, we invited him to a pleasant interview in the office. Of course not without surprising him with a well-filled package full of goodies. Just because he deserves it!
Two clients, one work mentality
Hassan has been working as a cleaner at both Morssinkhof and Groevenbeek College for more than three years. His days are well filled. At Morssinkhof he starts at 5:00 am and continues working until approximately 12:00 noon to 12:30 pm. Then he goes home to eat and refuel briefly. In the afternoon, around 2:30 PM/3:00 PM, he will work for another three hours at Groevenbeek College. He does this with energy and reliability that many can follow as an example. Hassan is never sick, never cancels and is always ready.
Working alone, but never alone
At Groevenbeek, Hassan works with some 20 colleagues, although he does the cleaning work largely independently. He likes that: this way he can maintain his own pace. Sometimes he helps Diana or Henny when needed, or jumps in when he finishes earlier. The school is currently being renovated, which causes a lot of commotion. Although Hassan enjoys working in an empty school, he also enjoys the liveliness. He likes to have a chat with colleagues, teachers and students. Comments like “Good job sir!” give him visible energy. At Morssinkhof he works alone, which he finds just as pleasant. During his break he likes to drink something cold, such as milk or Coolbest, he prefers to leave hot coffee or tea, and there is time for a joke or chat.
Thinking along is in his DNA
Hassan is not only a hard worker, but also actively thinks along. For example, he suggested at Morssinkhof that a scrubbing machine be purchased because the canteen with a hand mop did not clean properly. Manager Alex took his idea seriously, resulting in cleaner floors and faster work. A good example of Hassan's involvement.
Why does he keep working?
Why Hassan still works at this age? Simple: he doesn't like sitting still. Working keeps him moving, healthy and among people. He sees how peers sit at home a lot and is sure that staying active is better. The fact that he is never ill underlines this. At home he lives with his son. He likes to cook, also enjoys cleaning at home and wants to continue working as long as he can. Getting up early and an afternoon nap are now part of that.
Appreciation that is earned
In recent years we have seen and spoken to Hassan regularly. Always cheerful, positive and with visible job satisfaction. Colleagues came and went, but the collaboration with Diana and Henny remained. With the delicacy package we want to show how much we appreciate it. Because employees like Hassan are rare.
Hassan, what an example you are. Hats off. Chapeau. And on to many more wonderful years of work together!
