The history of Massilly
Massilly was founded in 1911 when Robert Bindschedler bought a mill in Massilly and began extracting tin via electrolysis. After WWI, the company started making household products from tinplate. In 1952 it officially became Robert Bindschedler SA, and it specialized in glass jar closures. The partnership with Anchor-Hocking in 1962 led to the successful “Twist” closures.
From the 1970s onwards, Massilly pioneered innovative production processes and expanded with acquisitions and the creation of a machinery branch. European expansion began in the 1980s, followed by global growth in the 1990s and 2000s. Today, Massilly is an international group with 25 subsidiaries, active on all continents and with more than 1,600 employees, specialized in metal packaging and closure solutions.
With the acquisition of Hoffman the Tin in April 2025, Massilly Holding further expanded its presence, this time to the Netherlands.
